Pre-K Atelier (The Little Atelier) is an eight week fall session offering a gentle, playful drop off program for children ages 3 to 5. Running Mondays from September 21st through November 16th, each 2.5 hour class unfolds from what children notice, ask, play and imagine, guided by an emergent, materials based curriculum rather than a fixed plan.
In addition to threads of inquiry sparked by the children, themes such as family, community, feelings and the natural world offer invitations for open ended art, sensory play and imaginative exploration, both indoors and out. Children move between small and large scale materials, hands on art making and quiet moments of discovery, supported by two experienced teachers/playworkers who meet each child where they are and help build anchoring attachments.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, Pre-K Atelier is more than an art class. It is a space where curiosity is honored, wonder is abundant and every child feels celebrated as they explore their world alongside friends.
Mondays, 9:30am to 12pm
September 21st, 28th, October 5th, 19th, 26th, November 3rd, 9th, 16th. (No class on Monday October 12th, Indigenous Peoples’ Day)
Approximate Daily Rhythm
9:30 – 10:15 | Outside Open Play
Children settle into the morning with outdoor play including the mud kitchen, water tables, a large painting easel, Imagination Playground Blue Blocks and open space to run and explore.
10:15 – 10:30 | Bathroom Trying Time and Hand Washing
A gentle transition indoors, offering children the chance to try the bathroom and wash hands together, building independence and predictable routine.
10:30 – 10:50 | Snack and Gathering Circle
Children gather to share a snack from home together, followed by a circle for songs, stories or conversation that welcomes the group into the day's theme.
10:50 – 11:10 | Atelier Table Invitation to Create
An open ended invitation to create using that week's materials, offering space for both independent exploration and collaborative discovery.
11:10 – 11:50 | Child Led Indoor Play
Children flow into indoor play allowing them to revisit materials, deepen friendships and follow their own emerging ideas. Gentle group cleanup is included near the end.
11:50 – 12:00 | Closing Circle/Dismissal
